(Grammar Core)

Part 1:

(Uncountable)
能数:one book, two books不能数:water, music, information
用 a/an, many, few用 much, little, a piece of

information信息英语视为整体概念a piece of information
news新闻虽然有 s,但是不可数!a piece of news
advice建议同上a piece of advice
homework作业同上a homework
furniture家具集合概念a piece of furniture
luggage/baggage行李集合概念a piece of luggage
bread面包物质名词a loaf/slice of bread
money抽象概念many moneys ❌ → a lot of money

一般加 -sbook → books, cat → cats, dog → dogs, pen → pens
s/sh/ch/x/o 加 -esbus → buses, watch → watches, potato → potatoes, box → boxes
辅音+y → iescity → cities, baby → babies, story → stories, family → families
f/fe → vesknife → knives, wife → wives, leaf → leaves, life → lives
不规则man→men, woman→women, child→children, foot→feet, tooth→teeth, mouse→mice
单复同形sheep→sheep, fish→fish, deer→deer, Chinese→Chinese

Part 2:冠词三剑客 a / an / the

a辅音发音开头的单数可数名词a book, a university(u 发 /juː/)
an元音发音开头的单数可数名词an apple, an hour(h 不发音)
the特指(双方都知道是哪一个)the sun, the book on the table
I like music. Dogs are lovely.

an hourh 不发音,元音 /aʊ/ 开头
an honest manh 不发音
a European countryeu 发 /juː/

Grammar Lens

第一次提到 → a/an "I saw a dog in the park."
第二次提到 → the "The dog was very friendly."
独一无二 → the "the sun, the moon, the Earth"

Dogs are loyal animals.
I love music.
三餐have breakfast/lunch/dinner
球类运动play football/basketball
学科study English/maths
by + 交通工具by bus/train/plane

Culture Note 🇬🇧🇺🇸 英国人说 “go to hospital”(生病住院),美国人说 “go to the hospital”。 英国人说 “at university”,美国人说 “at the university”。

😂 Grammar Joke

a/an/the 的终极困惑

Teacher: “Use ‘a’, ‘an’ and ‘the’ in one sentence.” Student:A boy fell into the river, and an old man saved him.” Teacher: “Very good! Now another one.” Student: “I ate a banana, an orange, and the whole cake.” Teacher: “That last one is concerning.”

学生完美地在一句话里用了三种冠词:a(辅音开头的泛指)、an(元音开头的泛指)、the(特指”那整个蛋糕”)。

中文、日文、韩文、俄文都没有 a/an/the 的概念。

冠词是日耳曼语系的”发明”——the 来自古英语的指示代词 se/sēo/þæt(那个),a/an 来自古英语的数词 ān(一个)。

🔵 A Visit to the British Museum

The British Museum is one of the most famous museums in the world. It has over 8 million objects. You can see the Rosetta Stone, which helped scientists understand Egyptian hieroglyphics. There is also a collection of Greek sculptures from the Parthenon. Admission is free — you don’t need a ticket. Every year, about 6 million visitors come to see the collection. If you only have an hour, go straight to Room 4 — that’s where the mummies are.

🔵 Strange Facts About Animals

An octopus has three hearts and blue blood. A group of flamingos is called a “flamboyance.” Dolphins sleep with one eye open. The blue whale is the largest animal that has ever lived on Earth — its heart is the size of a small car. Honey never goes bad. Scientists found 3,000-year-old honey in an Egyptian tomb, and it was still perfectly good to eat.

🔵 Pizza: A Short History

Pizza was born in Naples, Italy. In 1889, a local baker made a special pizza for the Queen of Italy, Margherita. He used tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil — red, white, and green, like the Italian flag. The Queen loved it. Today, that pizza is still called ” Margherita.” Americans eat about 3 billion pizzas every year. That’s about 100 acres of pizza every day — enough to cover the White House 900 times.
